How to Read Gokyo Ri Trek Map

Reading the Gokyo Ri Trek map is easy once you understand the signs and symbols used to indicate route lines, elevation markings, and geographic features. This map legend shows all the signs used on the map and what they mean.

• The orange circle shows the start/end point of the trip. For this Gokyo Ri Trek map, Kathmandu is shown as the overall starting and ending point of the trip.
• The black-and-white dashed line indicates the driving route you should take before starting the trek. For the Gokyo Ri Trek, this may represent the road journey from Kathmandu to Ramechhap when flights to Lukla operate from Ramechhap.
• The dotted black line with an airplane sign symbolizes the flight route. Most of the Everest treks start with a flight to Lukla, including the Gokyo Ri Trek.
• The green solid line is the route you’ll walk through on your Gokyo Ri adventure. As shown on the map, it starts at Lukla and continues to Namche Bazaar, Dole, Machhermo, and Gokyo Valley, then reaches Gokyo Ri. Afterward, it descends to Lumde, Namche Bazaar, and concludes at Lukla.
