Then, you will follow the trail along the Dudh Koshi River. For the first few hours, you will trek on gentle paths. You will cross five suspension bridges that span the Dudh Kosi River. Upon reaching Monjo, you will register your permit number and group information at the entrance gate of Sagarmatha National Park. From here, your trek within the national park begins.
Moving forward, you will cross the iconic Hillary Suspension Bridge, one of the highest bridges in the Everest region. The trail starts to get challenging from here. You begin trekking on a steep and zigzag path through pine forests to Namche Bazaar. The steep climb, combined with growing altitude, makes it the toughest part of todayās trek. Located in the heart of the Khumbu district, Namche Bazaar is the āSherpa Capitalā and trading hub of the region. There are a decent number of shops, restaurants, cafes, hotels, and teahouses here. You can get your first glimpse of Mount Everest if the weather favors us. For two days, you will rest and acclimatize in Namche.

Island Peak with Everest Three Passes Trek-19 Days Trip Information
Guidelines for Insurance & Security
Going on a combined adventure of Island Peak with the Everest Three Passes requires careful preparation, especially regarding insurance and security. As the journey takes you through the high altitudes of the Himalayas, involving technical climbing, ensuring security is paramount. So, the insurance is the most important aspect of the security procedure.
Travel insurance is a critical necessity for any Himalayan expedition, including for Island Peak Climbing. However, standard travel insurance policies are generally insufficient for this adventure. Thus, your insurance must be tailored to cover high-altitude trekking and climbing. The mandatory coverage components for the Island Peak expedition involve coverage of altitudes up to and above 6,200 m. Similarly, it must cover emergency medical evacuation, including helicopter rescue, medical expenses, hospitalization costs, trip cancellation, and loss or theft of your belongings.
Furthermore, other security procedures climbers can follow include;
-
- Be physically and mentally fit to deal with trek and climbās challenges.
- Follow the instructions given by the guide, as they are an experienced professional who knows the route, the weather patterns, and the signs of altitude sickness.
- Walk slowly on the route without rushing and allowing your body to acclimatize while adapting to changes in altitude and temperature.
- Be aware of the symptoms of altitude sickness, and if you feel any of the symptoms, inform your guide or a member of your group.
- Ask your guide to check the weather every day.
- Never trek alone, especially at high altitudes or on the passes.
- Stay hydrated and consume nutritious food, as proper hydration reduces the risk of altitude sickness and nutritious food helps to maintain your energy level.
The Island Peak Climbing With Three Passes Trek at USD 2,340 per Person
The expedition to Island Peak with the Everest Three Pass Trek costs USD 2,340 per person. The cost covers most of the expenses needed for the climbing and trekking adventure. The package includes the price of domestic airfare, three times meals and accommodation throughout the expedition, a climbing team with camping equipment, a guide, a porter, and all government taxes.
However, the price is not a constant factor and varies based on different elements. One of the primary factors affecting the cost of the Island Peak adventure, including the trek to the Everest Three Pass, is the size of the group. Most of the trekking companies, including Himalaya Guide, provide exclusive group discounts. So, the more you are in a group, the less you can expect to pay.
Similarly, factors such as the trekking period, preferred level of luxury, climbing season, chosen mode of accommodation, and transportation all contribute to the cost of the Island Peak Climbing combined with the Everest Three Pass trek.
On average, the budget for day-by-day expenses, including accommodation, food, permits, and incidentals, can vary from USD 25 to USD 40 per day. Additional charges may include hiring a manual and porter, gear rental, guide and porter tips, and personal expenses for snacks and drinks. Likewise, fees for hot showers and Wi-Fi at teahouses, as well as miscellaneous costs for souvenirs or unexpected needs, come under your own expenses.
Skip EBC and Take Three Passes With Island Peak Climbing Route
If you are an experienced adventurer seeking a more challenging and less crowded experience in the Khumbu region, the Three Passes Trek with Island Peak climbing route, excluding EBC, may be the best option for you. In the route, youāll follow a different route but the same locations while skipping the section of Everest Base Camp, Gorakshep, and Kalapatthar.
The Island Peak with Three Passes, which skips the EBC, has generally different routes, which is reversed (clockwise or counter-clockwise) and take about 20 days. The reversed route follows the following itinerary:
LuklaāPhakding āNamche Bazaar āThame āLungden āCross Renjo La Pass to Gokyoā Trek to Thangnakā Cross Cho La Pass to Dzonglaā Lobucheā Cross Kongma La Pass to ChhukungāIsland Peak Base Camp ā Island PeakHigh Camp ā Island Summit āTengboche āNamche Bazaar ā Lukla
Why Acclimatize at Namche Bazaar, Dingboche, and Gokyo?Ā
Acclimatization at Namche Bazaar, Dingboche, and Gokyo is not just an extra day but a crucial part of the expedition for a successful and safe Island Peak climb with the Everest Three Passes. The locations are strategically chosen to allow your body to adapt to the increasingly lower oxygen levels and reduce the risk of altitude-related risk. Similarly, the acclimatization days at each location follow the rule of āclimb high, sleep low.”
Namche Bazaar
Namche Bazaar, at an elevation of 3,440 m, is the first acclimatization stop on the journey to Island Peak. Not only for Island Peak, but for most of the adventures in the Everest region, Namche Bazaar serves as the ideal acclimatization point. Your journey to the Island starts with a flight to Lukla airport from Kathmandu, which sits at an elevation of 2,860 m, and from there, the journey ascends to Namche, which is at an elevation above 3,440 m. At this elevation, oxygen levels are about 65% of sea level, so an acclimatization day is critical here.
Dingboche
After Namche, you continue ascending through Tengboche and Pangboche, reaching Dingboche. At an elevation of 4,410 m, Dingboche is the second acclimatization stop on the way to Island Peak. Oxygen levels here are only about 58% of sea level, so to prevent altitude sickness, travelers acclimatize at Dingboche before heading to Island Peak and EBC for a smooth adventure.
Gokyo
Located before the high pass of Renjo La Pass (5,360m), Gokyo is the ideal base for final acclimatization. More than an acclimatization, the day is spent hiking to the top of Gokyo Ri (5,357m), which lies above Gokyo Valley. After the long expedition to the Island, spending time in the beauty of the Gokyo valley offers a much-needed mental break.
