Why choose Everest View Trek?
While Everest View Trek doesn’t take you to the foot of Everest, it also doesn’t compromise the trekking experience. It is perfectly suited for friends and family to do together. That said, here are a few reasons to choose the Everest View trek.
Perfect for all ages
The Everest View Trek is a low-risk trek with moderate altitude gain, with an acclimatization at Namche Bazaar. So, it is perfectly suitable even for children and the elderly. We can customize the itinerary if someone who is aged wants to do this trek to match their pace. It also has well-maintained trails, and the multiple accommodation options till Tengboche range from simple tea houses to high-end hotels. Therefore, this trek allows trekkers of all fitness levels and ages to enjoy the Himalayan landscape. It can be the perfect go-to trek for the family of various age groups.
Less Challenging than EBC Trek
Everest Base Camp Trek is one of the most popular treks in the Everest Region. There is no doubt about it. But let us also address the fact that it is challenging and involves multiple risks. Not everyone can do it. But, Everest View Trek, despite being in the Everest Region, is easy, and even beginners can do it. EBC Trek reaches the heights of 5,555 meters (Kalapatthar), for which you have to start preparing at least months prior for the longer duration and trekking hours. However, it is not the case with this trek. You still have to prepare, but the hassle is way less than the EBC Trek.
Amazing Views from Hotel Everest View
On the acclimatization day at Namche Bazaar, you will take an optional hike to the Hotel Everest View, which is located at an elevation of 3,880 meters above sea level. It is recorded as the highest-placed hotel in the Guinness World Records. Reaching there, you can witness the stunning views of Mount Everest, surrounding peaks, and the Khumjung Valley. The other mountains you can see while at the hotel are Lhotse, Ama Dablam, Thamserku, and so on.
Cultural Exposure
Lukla, Jorsalle, Khumjung, Phakding, Namche, Tengboche, and Monjo are some of the villages you will come across along the trekking route. These villages are inhabited by the Sherpas of the Everest region, who are known for their mountaineering prowess. While visiting these villages, you will learn about their culture through direct interaction, observation, or with the help of guides. You can visit the museums in Namche to learn more about their past. Moreover, visiting the Tengboche Monastery, you can learn about their religious and spiritual side of life.
Tengboche Monastery
Tengboche Monastery, also known as Dawa Choling Gompa, is the oldest and largest Buddhist gompa in the Khumbu region of Nepal. It dates back to 1961 when it was constructed by Lama Gulu, with a connection to its mother monastery, the Rongbuk Monastery in Tibet. The monastery lies at an impressive height of 3,867 m /12,687 ft within Sagarmatha National Park. It is one of the prominent landmarks along the route to the Everest Base Camp Trek and the final destination on the Everest View Trek.
One of the remarkable features of the Tengboche monastery is that it offers stunning 360-degree views of the surrounding mountains, particularly of Mount Everest and Ama Dablam. The Mani Rimdu festival is a major occasion celebrated in the monastery, which is a 19-day Buddhist celebration of the Sherpa communities in the Everest region. Similarly, the beautiful murals, Thangka paintings, and traditional wood carvings decorate the monastery, adding to the beauty of this spiritual hub.
Everest View Trek Elevation Profile
Since it is a short and easy trek, the itinerary is designed to minimize elevation gain throughout the trek. You will start trekking from Lukla(2,860 m) and reach a height of 3.867 meters at Tengboche. So, the total elevation gain is only about 1,000 meters, which is manageable by beginners. The highest gain of 788 meters happens on day three of the trek, while you are heading towards Namche from Phakding. The lowest gain is only 25 meters while returning to Lukla from Monjo. That said, the highest elevation loss is about 1,032 meters on the day you return to Monjo from Tengboche. Here is the table showcasing the elevation profile of the Everest View Trek:
| Day | Starting Point | Elevation (m) | Ending Point | Elevation (m) | Elevation Gain (m) | Elevation Loss (m) |
|---|---|---|---|---|---|---|
| 1 | – | – | Kathmandu Airport | 1,350 | – | – |
| 2 | Kathmandu | 1,350 | Phakding | 2,652 | – | ~208 |
| 3 | Phakding | 2,652 | Namche Bazaar | 3,440 | 788 | – |
| 4 | Acclimatization Day | 3,440 | Namche Bazaar | 3,440 | 440 | 440 |
| 5 | Namche Bazaar | 3,440 | Tengboche | 3,867 | 427 | – |
| 6 | Tengboche | 3,867 | Monjo | 2,835 | – | 1,032 |
| 7 | Monjo | 2,835 | Lukla | 2,860 | 25 | – |
| 8 | Lukla | 2,860 | Kathmandu | 1,350 | – | – |
Note: The table doesn’t include the minor elevation gains between the starting and ending points.
Since Everest View Trek is Short, do I still need acclimatization?
Acclimatization is a crucial tool when it comes to dealing with altitude sickness. Also, altitude sickness is not related to the duration of the treks. It happens when your body becomes unable to adjust to the thinning oxygen level above 3,500 meters. So, yes, you still need acclimatization at Namche Bazaar, even if the Everest View Trek is short. The reason why many itinerary of Everest region treks, including the Everest Base Camp Trek, includes Namche as an acclimatization spot is not only for acclimatization. Namche is the gateway to the Everest Region and has modern markets, including services like ATMs and trekking shops. Stopping here allows trekkers to prepare for the trek for the last time.
Moreover, acclimatization is not just staying at the hotel and spending time in bed. It is about exploring the villages and taking side hikes to follow the “Climb High, Sleep Low” principle. So, following this principle, you will also take a short hike up to Everest View Hotel at 3,880 meters, which is the highest point of this trek. Besides, you will visit the museums and explore the culture of the Sherpa people. So, staying at Namche would provide acclimatization for the Everest View Trek but also provide you with the valuable experience that no other place in the trek could give.
Everest View Trek for all levels of Trekkers
The Everest View Trek is the perfect alternative to the strenuous EBC Trek. This short and scenic trek is easy and suitable for beginners. The itinerary is made and targeted at beginners who are new to trekking and want to explore the Everest Region. So, different levels of trekkers experience the Everest View Trek differently. That said, here is what this trek might be like for beginners and intermediate trekkers:
Everest View Trek for Beginner Trekkers
As discussed above, Everest View Trek is ideal for beginners who may have little to no trekking experience. The trail is easy, and the elevation gain is manageable with the acclimatization day at the Namche Bazaar. So, they needn’t worry about altitude sickness. However, the challenge of walking through the rugged terrain still exists, and we recommend that beginners prepare before the trek. It is essential to train your legs and build stamina. If you fall under this category, you might find this trek slightly difficult. But you will enjoy every step of this trek.
Everest View Trek for Intermediate Trekkers
If you are an intermediate or experienced trekker, you might want more than just the Everest View Trek. While you might want to take the trek if you don’t have much time, you will likely do this trek without much hassle. For you, it will be the light version of the EBC Trek. So they might find it less demanding. However, Everest View Trek is challenging compared to the other easier treks. So, if you fall under this category, you should go for this trek if you have less time and if you want to do a moderately challenging trek in that short duration. However, you must let us know if you want to extend the trek and reach the base camp.
Everest View Trek Cost
The Everest View Trek package at Himalaya Guide Nepal starts at USD 974 per person. This is the price if you are trekking alone. However, if you are trekking with a group, the price per person will be lower. For example, if you are a group of 10 people, a single person has to pay only USD 670, allowing you to save USD 304. Besides, there are festive and off-season discounts available at Himalaya Guide Nepal. Please refer the table below to know about the prices for the groups:
Views During Everest View Trek
A common misconception among trekkers regarding the Everest View Trek is that many think it doesn’t offer much in terms of the scenic and trekking experience it provides. However, it is not true. The Everest View Trek offers breathtaking panoramic views of Mount Everest and the surrounding peaks. You will reach the Hotel Everest View to witness the best views in the region. Hence, it is also known as Evereset Panorama View Trek. Mount Everest, Ama Dablam, Lhotse, and Thamserku are some of the mountains to see from the hotel and throughout the trek. Besides, you will traverse through the lush rhododendron and pine forest during the entire trek along the banks of the Dudh-Koshi river, which adds beauty to the trek.
Alongside the mountain scenery, Everest View Trek is also famous for providing cultural richness. The colorful prayer flags fluttering in the wind along the trail offer a refreshing feeling. The many walls with the backdrop of mountains are picture-worthy and add spirituality to the trek. If you are trekking during the spring season, you will witness blooming wildflowers, and the chances of wild animal sightings are also high. Overall, the Everest View Trek blends the natural Himalayan beauty with the cultural charms.
Comparing the Everest View Trek with the Manaslu Short Trek and the Short ABC Trek
Everest View Trek is the trek that introduces you to the Everest Region, the most famous trekking region in the world. However, it is not the only short trek in Nepal. The other two famous short treks include Manaslu Short Trek and Short ABC Trek, both taking you to higher elevations than Everest View Trek. So, why exactly choose it? Here is a brief comparison between these three treks:
| Feature | Everest View Trek | Manaslu Short Trek | Short ABC Trek |
|---|---|---|---|
| Region | Everest (Khumbu) | Manaslu (Gorkha) | Annapurna (Kaski & Myagdi) |
| Typical Duration | 8 days | 12 days | 8 days |
| Max Elevation | 3,867 m (Hotel Everest View) | 5,106 m (Larkya La Pass) | 4,130 m (Annapurna Base Camp) |

| Highlights | Everest views without altitude strain | Off-the-beaten-path adventure with epic views | Fast access to iconic Himalayan scenery |
| Cost (USD, one pax) | USD 974 per person | USD 925 per person | USD 556 |
Despite Manaslu Short Trek and Short ABC Trek taking you to elevations higher than Everest View Trek, they are both comparatively difficult, with the risk of altitude sickness. Doing those longer treks in shorter durations can pose significant issues, ranging from injuries to fever. Their risk and challenges mean that they are not suitable for beginners. However, Everest View Trek is designed for beginners. It introduces you to the Everest Region and kicks off your journey.
So, if you are a beginner and looking for a short Everest Trek experience, you should consider the Everest View Trek.
