Chulu East Climbing is one of the best trekking peaks in the Annapurna region of the Himalayas. Because being amongst the highest peaks in Nepal. Chulu East combines the challenge and adventure of climbing in a single go. Situated in the Damodar mountain range. Chulu Peak is bounded by some more iconic names in the Himalayas. Because to the east is the Chako peak (6,687 m).

To the extent of the south-north are the Hunlung, Nar, and Phu Rivers. The Marsyangdi River and the Mesokanto La Pass decorate the southern part of the peak. From any part of your climb, you can have amazing views of the Annapurna (8,091 m), Dhaulagiri (8,167 m), and Manaslu (8,163 m) ranges. Professional mountaineers rate this peak high for anyone looking forward to entering the mountaineering world.

The two main peaks of the Chulu massif are named Chulu east and west respectively. So, the relative elevation can be faulty in some maps but climbers consider Chulu West as the highest part of both. Because the permit for this climb was issued under Chulu East we will follow a well-defined route to the summit.

Chulu East Climbing is starting from the lively Besisahar, we will walk into the heart of Manang. Crossing sections of majestic beauty and welcoming locals, we will enter the lower Himalayas. But following the Annapurna circuit for a while, we will complete the climb midway through the journey.

Day00

Arrival in Tribhuvan international airport Kathmandu Nepal 1350mtrs.

You will meet a representative from Himalaya Guide after landing in the Tribhuwan International Airport. After arriving here, he will escort you to a hotel in Thamel. You can ask some more Dos and Donts during the drive which might be helpful here. Rest for the day after reaching the hotel. Overnight at a hotel in Kathmandu.

Day01

Rest day and trip preparation.

We have a whole day today to prepare the gear and climbing equipment for the Chulu climb. First, you will visit our office with your guide for the orientation session of the climb. We will go through the routes, major places, and points you will be during the journey.

After that, you will get some tips from professional peak climbing experts for the climb. Next, your guide will help you with the preparation. He will also take you to a gear shop if required to buy additional gear/supplies. With everything taken care of, he will drop you to your hotel. Overnight at Kathmandu.

Day02

Kathmandu to Besisahar 500mtrs

We will start our adventure today with a scenic drive to the small town of Besisahar. The drive is about 6-8 hours long and we will pass through major settlements of the area.

Soon after breakfast, our guide will pick you up from the hotel. You will take a cab to the bus stop and take a bus to Besisahar. Snacks and lunch breaks are often here. After reaching here, we will rest for the day at a lodge here. Overnight at Besisahar.

Day03

Besisahar to Chame 2,670mtrs

After breakfast at Besisahar, we will head towards the local bus station here. From the bus stop, we will catch a jeep to Chame. These jeeps leave at a timely interval to Chame till noon. You can customize the trip and walk for extra days on the trail to reach Chame from Besisahar as well.

Driving to Chame is the better option here. The ride is thrilling with many sharp turns and off-road segments. We will rest for the day after reaching the village. Chame is a major settlement and also the district headquarters of Manang. Overnight at a teahouse in Chame.

Day04

Chame to Upper Pisang 3,320mtrs

We will start a gradual hike to Upper Pisang from Chame today. Our trekking section today is scenic with fantastic landscape views. Following a warm-up and breakfast, we will cross the Marsyangdi River and walk past the Talekhu village. An hour of relaxed walk from here will take you to Bharthang.

Sparse spruce and pine trees are on the trails to Bharthang. We will stop for lunch in Dhikur/DhukurPokhari a couple of hours from here. You can also spot a small pond from which the place got its name.

A steady climb leads you to Pisang village. Enjoy a brief break and follow the trail to Upper Pisang. Similarly, you will notice the change in terrain nearing Upper Pisang. Overnight at teahouse in Upper Pisang.

Day05

Upper Pisang to Ngawal 3,660mtrs

Take a brief visit to a Monastery in upper Pisang before starting the trek. One can also have a fantastic sunrise view from the village. Leaving the village, you will be beside a small lake called Mring Tal. From the lake, the trail goes zig-zag and takes a steep climb to reach Ghyaru.

Walking further for a while we will reach Ghyaru. Ghyaru is a beautiful village on a high ridge. Our lunch break is also in the village. After walking some more hours on a smooth trail, we will reach the Ngawal village. Overnight at a teahouse in Ngawal.

Day06

Ngawal to Yak Kharka 3,840mtrs

Ngawal is a big village in the Annapurna area. Visiting a beautiful Gompa in the middle of the village is a perfect way to start the day. You can also enjoy some baked goods in some small cafes here. As we have a short trek today we will have plenty of time to enjoy the sunrise and views.

You can expect a proper Himalayan trail trekking today. We will take a brief break in Gunsang midway to Yak Kharka. Sharing the trail with Yaks and mules you will cross a beautiful bridge before Yak Kharka. After reaching here rest and relax for the day. Overnight at a lodge in Yak Kharka.

Day07

Yak Kharka to Chulu east base camp 5,145mtrs

We will hike up to the Chulu East Base camp from Yak Kharka today. The trek gains a lot of elevation in the short distance and you can have some pretty challenging sections for travelers heading to the base camp from Yak Kharka. We will stop briefly midway and take our lunch.

The views from the trail here are fantastic. Steadily walking uphill, we will reach the Base camp of Chulu East in the afternoon. After setting up our camp there, we will rest for the day. Overnight at Chulu East Base Camp.

Day08

Exploration day in Chulu East Base Camp

Today is a well-required rest day at an elevation of over 5,000 meters. The trail and surroundings are mostly covered with snow from the base camp. You can take a small hiking session to analyze the climb tomorrow and enjoy the view. Check for the gear and prepare for the summit the next day. We will have our meals at the camp today. Overnight at Chulu East Base Camp.

Day09

Chulu east base camp to High Camp 5,600mtrs

Wake up with some fantastic sunrise view of the Annapurna range in the Chulu East Base Camp. We have a pretty steep walk ahead to the High camp from the base camp ahead. Although the distance is only little over 4 kilometers, the trail is tough.

You have to follow the guide properly in rocky and slippery paths. After reaching the High Camp in the afternoon we will set our camp there and you can rest for the day. Overnight at High Camp.

Day10

An extra day

We have a second day of acclimatizing break in the High Camp of Chulu Peak. At an elevation of 5,600 meters, it’s very important to acclimatize before the summit the next day.

You can hike around the camp and check your gear in the camp. The views of snow-capped peaks are magnificent from the High Camp. Warm up for the climb and rest for the day. Overnight at a tented camp in Chulu East High Camp.

Day11

High camp to Chulu east 6,484 m. then back to base camp 5145mtrs

We will start the climb very early today. You will walk through glaciers and follow the northeast ridge to the Chulu East summit. Enjoy the sunrise view midway to the summit. After a couple of hours more of gradual climbing, you will be at the base of the summit ridge.

From here, it is a steep and challenging ascent up to the top. The views keep getting better as you near the Summit of Chulu East. The feeling is unreal from the summit as you can have a sublime view of massive snowcapped peaks dominating the skyline.

The Annapurna (8,091 m), Dhaulagiri (8,167 m), and Manaslu (8,163 m) are three of the eight thousand meter peaks from the summit alongside many other outstanding peaks of the Himalayas. After some time here take the steep descent back to the Base Camp via High Camp. Overnight at a tented camp at the Base Camp.

Day12

Chulu east base camp to Manang 3,500mtrs

From the Chulu East base camp, we will start the gradual descent back to Nagwal. From here we will use the locally used trail of the Annapurna circuit to the iconic Manang village. Commencing the trek, we will walk down to the Humde village.

The trail is relaxed and smooth next taking us to Braka. Braka/Braga offers some fantastic views of the landscape and mountains. We will also have our lunch stop here.

The Braga Monastery is visible from the village which is a popular hiking option from the village. Further walking for a couple of hours we will reach Manang in the late afternoon. Overnight at a lodge in Manang.

Day13

Manang to Ledar 4,200mtrs

Manang is one of the most scenic settlements of our trek. This small town is one of the best representations of Tibetan culture and traditional lifestyle here. We have a short day today for trekking. So, you can enjoy a brief tour of Manang before starting it.

Manang is also the best-selected acclimatization village of the famous Annapurna Circuit. We will start the trek after breakfast, and walk a gradual uphill to Ledar. Leaving the Marsyangdi valley, we will reach Ledar in the afternoon. Overnight at a lodge/teahouse in Ledar.

Day14

Ledar to High Camp 4,925mtrs

From Ledar, we will hike up to the high camp of the Thorung La pass. Starting the walk we will cross the river below and follow the trail on the other bank. We will take a small sightseeing break at ThorungPhedi at 4420 m.

You will pass a few rockslide areas and the terrain will start to look rocky and barren as well. After a steep climb, we will reach the high camp in the afternoon. Overnight at a teahouse in High Camp.

Day15

High camp – Throng La Pass 5,416mtrs then Muktinath 3825mtrs

We will do the beautiful Thorung La Pass and head towards the Mustang region of Nepal. Trekking-wise, this day is the longest day of the whole trek. From the high camp, we will start our trek today much earlier. It is important to do the pass as well.

Take the route following the guide to the scenic pass. Once there, you can also have some mesmerizing views of the panoramic snow-capped peaks. Thorung La Pass welcomes you with prayer flags and you can spend some time here.

We will soon start the descent to Muktinath. Similarly from the pass starts the Mustang district. Passing by some steep but equally scenic segments we will reach Muktinath in the afternoon. Rest for the day in a lodge here. Overnight at a lodge in Muktinath.

Day16

Muktinath to Jomsom 2,720 mtrs

Muktinath is one of the most significant and gifting religious destinations in the Himalayas. With the beautiful sunrise, follow the pilgrims to the premises here. Although being the temple of the Hindu god Bishnu (the creator), Muktinath also sees an equal no of Buddhist devotees.

We will also spend some time exploring the temple and premises in peace. Following the visit, we will head back to the lodge and have our breakfast. Continuing the last walk of the Chulu East Climbing tour, we will walk to Jomsom here.

Besides the magnificent Kali Gandaki Valley, this trek is rela[xed and short. Rest for the day after reaching Jomsom in a lodge. Overnight at Jomsom.

Day17

Jomsom to Pokhara

Soon after breakfast in Jomsom, we will catch a plane to Pokhara. The flight is most likely in the morning because of the windy noon experienced by Jomsom. You will have a scenic domestic flight. Once in Pokhara enjoy your time in the city exploring amazing destinations.

You can take it up a notch and go for some adventurous options. Bungee, Paragliding, kayaking, and rock climbing all are on the menu here. Visit some of the natural and monumental destinations here and rest for the day at your hotel. Overnight at Pokhara.

Day18

Pokhara to Kathmandu by deluxe tourist bus.

You will return to Kathmandu by bus today from Pokhara after breakfast. You can also enjoy some local foods on the way. Traveling on a scenic hill highway, you will enter the Kathmandu Valley after 5-6 hours.

Join us for an authentic Nepali farewell dinner with your climbing teen. We will also escort you to the TIA a few hours before your flight. Return with some lifelong memories and stories from Chulu East Climb with Himalaya Guide.
