Mera and Island Peak climbing is a combination of some of the best trekking peaks in the Khumbu region. Because this is beside the magnificent presence of Mt. Everest.

From the lower hills through some of the gifted natural viewpoints. We will reach the Base Camps of the peaks. And Just above the snowline prepare for an adventure of a lifetime here. Mera Peak and Island Peak showcase the different shades of the Himalayas. So, this trip leads the wandering trekkers to the Everest Base Camp and above.

The journey surfs the beautiful flora and fauna of Makalu-Barun and Sagarmatha national park. Getting closer to the Sherpa culture and learning from the mountaineers, the stories just keep adding here. Completing the trek of Island and Mera Peaks. The feat is immeasurable and moments worthy of it all.

From the closed streets to the high hills of Lukla, the trek promises a thrill from the start. The first part of the trek to Mera is one of the less traveled trails in comparison to the worldwide popular EBC trail.

But, Mera and Island Peak Climbing are often regarded as the best ones for viewing more of Everest and its surroundings. Trekking here constitutes small passes and a pristine combination of landscape views.

Way to Mera Peak North

From the base of the peak, we will make our way to Mera North (6476 M). From the top the views are breathtaking. The hype for the Island peak is real once you have got the taste of peak climbing in the Himalayas here. Returning to Lukla, each stop and day is a bag of surprises just waiting for you.

Kick-starting the second part of the Mera Peak and Island Peak Trek. We follow some of the best trails the Himalayas have to offer. Cruising through the Sherpa settlements and wonderful scenery, we will be at the Everest base camp. The ultimate goal is yet to come as we head towards the Island peak.

Also known by the local name Imja Tse, this peak is an island in a sea of ice. Near Everest, each day here treats you with sublime views of Mt. Everest, Lhotse, Makalu, Cho Oyu, and other unbelievable mountains.

Day00

Arrival day in Kathmandu 1350mtrs.

We will receive you at the Tribhuwan International Airport (TIA) after landing. After the customs clearance, our representative will drive you to your hotel. Head out for the first glance of the lively Kathmandu valley after some rest and refreshments. Overnight at a hotel in Thamel Kathmandu.

Day00

Rest and Trip preparation 1350M.

Visit our office after breakfast today. We will introduce you to your team for the Island and Mera Peak trek. You will have a short orientation session covering the routes and itinerary of the trek. Our guide will help you with the equipment and gear preparation for the climb. If you have to buy/rent some of these, we will also suggest some of the trusted shops nearby. In your spare time, you can visit the nearby market and streets today. Overnight at a hotel in Kathmandu.

Day01

Fly to Lukla 2840mtrs/ 30minuts by flight.

Day02

Lukla to Chutenga 3350M.

Starting our trekking portion of the journey, we will head towards the Chutega village from Lukla today. With a hearty breakfast followed by a quick warm-up session, we will continue in the trail to Chutega. Most part of the trail today will be beside thick and beautiful pine forests. Patches of Rhododendron every now and then makes the way even better. We will stop for lunch at Kharka and continue the walk after it. With a few rests and gradual uphill segment, we will reach Chutenga in the afternoon. Overnight at a lodge in Chutenga.

Day03

Chutenga to Cheetara 4170mtrs

From Chutenga we will have a rising trail to Cheetara. Passing the Hinku valley after breakfast, we will start the climb to Zatrwa la Pass (4640 m). After a brief sightseeing break in the Pass, we will drop down to a bamboo forest. The trail widens a bit through smaller rhododendron forests to Cheetara. Overnight at a lodge in Cheetara.

Day04

Cheetara to Kothe 3600M

From Cheetara, we will join the major trail coming from Nigmsa to Kothe today. The trail turns on a scenic touch once we go up and down the ridges. We will have our lunch in one of the midway settlements. Our trail gets a bit relaxed nearing Kothe. You can enjoy the sunset view from Kothe village and rest for the day here. Overnight at a lodge in Kothe.

Day05

Kothe to Thangnag 4356M

From Kothe, we will start a short walking day today to Thangnag. At Kothe, we are officially in the Makalu Barun National Park. We will have our permits checked in the village for the park before starting the walk today. There are a couple of landslide-prone areas today to Thangnag. You can rest for the day after reaching Thangnag. Overnight at a teahouse in Thangnag.

Day06

Rest day in Thangnak 4356M.

Thangnag is our first Acclimatization stop during the Mera Peak climbing part of the trek. It might as well be one of the best villages to stay and enjoy the mountain views surrounding. While many massive peaks are surrounding the village the close views of Kusum Kanguru and Mera North can’t go unnoticed. You can also do a short day hike to Sabal Tsho, a glacial moraine north of Thangnak. Overnight at a teahouse here.

Day07

Thangnak to Khare Camp 5045M.

Wake up with a fantastic view of sunrise dominating the skyline in Thangnak. The trail heads towards beside the lateral moraine of Dig Glacier. From Dig Kharka ahead you can have a wonderful view of Charpate Himal. With the views of Hinku Nup and Shar Glaciers, we will have a steep climb to Khare. We will set up the camp here and rest for the day. Overnight at a tented camp in Khare Camp.

Day08

Khare Camp to Mera Base Camp 5350M.

We have short treks up till the high camp so you can acclimatize better here. Today we will have a pretty relaxed trek to the Mera Base Camp. The trail is covered in snowline as we get closer to the Mera peak base camp. Rest for the day and do short hikes nearby after reaching Mera Base Camp. Overnight at a tented camp in Mera BC.

Day09

Mera Base Camp to High Camp 5780 M

The trek to the Mera High camp constitutes multiple steep and rocky faces. Follow your guide and be careful in this portion of the trek. The trail loosens up a bit with a magnificent view of the surrounding mountains at the High Camp. The campsite is beside a big boulder helping with some of the windy weather. Get plenty of rest for the Mera summit the next day. Overnight in a tented camp at Mera Peak High Camp.

Day10

Mera High Camp to Summit - Trek to Khare Camp5045M.

We will start the climb to Summit of Mera Peak from the High Camp early today. From the top you can have fantastic views of Mt Everest, Mt. Lhotse, Mt. Cho Oyu, and Mt. Makalu all the way to Mt. Kanchenjunga over the 8000 meters mark. Similarly, the views of Ama Dablam, Nuptse, Lobuche, and other iconic peaks makes the climb worth every step. We will return to Khare Camp to rest for the day in the afternoon. Overnight at a tent in Khare Camp.

Day11

Khare Camp to Kothe 3600M

We will follow the same trail to Kothe from Khare camp today. For the most part of today’s trek, we will have a downhill heading trail beside ridges. The landscape views are equally amazing nearing our lunch stop at Thangnak. We will rest for the day and relax after reaching Kothe in the afternoon. Overnight at a lodge in Kothe.

Day12

Kothe to Chatarwa 4170M.

We have a short but scenic segment to walk today heading to the Chatarwa village. After a quick descent from Kothe village after breakfast, the trail is gradually uphill embarked on ridges to Chatarwa. Enjoy the fantastic view of Hinku valley once more nearing Chatarwa. Overnight at a teahouse in Chatarwa.

Day13

Chatarwa to Phakding 2850M

We will complete the traverse of the Zatrwa la pass heading to Chutanga from Chatarwa. Joining the trail of the forest we will hike up to the pass and reach Chatarwa after a quick descent. A couple of hours more of easy descend will take us to our lunch stop back at Lukla village. After a brief break, we will continue on the trail to Everest Base Camp. Through a much-relaxed path, we will stop at Phakding and rest for the day.

Day14

Phakding to Namche Bazaar 3440M.

From Phakding we will travel in some of the well-managed trails in the Himalayas to Namche Bazaar. We will enter the Sagarmatha National Park and get our permits checked at Monjo. Next is the lunch stop at Jorsalle and we will continue in the trail beside Dudh Koshi River. Rest for the day after reaching Namche Bazaar in the afternoon. Overnight at a hotel in Namche Bazaar.

Day15

Acclimatization day in Namche Bazaar 3440M.

We will have our second acclimatization and a much-needed rest day at Namche bazaar today. Namche, being one of the biggest settlements of the Khumbu region is a place to extend the stay. You can go to the nearby day hiking destinations of Khumjung village and monasteries today. The Sherpa culture is showcased best in the Bazaar. Overnight at a hotel in Namche Bazaar.

Day16

Namche Bazaar to Tengboche 3867M,

We will start the day with a fantastic sunrise view from Namche Bazaar. Commencing the walk we will pass by Kyangjuma and Sanasa. The trail to Gokyo valley separates from the latter. Some hours of gradual uphill will lead us to Phunki Tenga. Following a brief break here, we will start the steep hike to Tengboche. Rest for the day after reaching Tengboche in the afternoon. Visit the Tengboche Monastery here which is the biggest one of the Khumbu region. Overnight at a teahouse in Tengboche.

Day17

Tengboche to Pheriche 4240M

We will continue in the Everest Base Camp trail further leading us to Pheriche today. Start the day with the views of Thamserku, Everest, Ama Dablam, Nuptse and more from Tengboche. With a brief descent with a trail through a sparse forest, we will cross a river before the rocky and dry uphill section to Pangboche. A short break here for exploration of this classic Sherpa village and we are on our way to Pheriche. Overnight at a teahouse at Pheriche.

Day18

Acclimatization day in Pheriche 4240M.

We will spend the day well hiking in the nearby destination for better acclimatization to the elevation. You can visit the likes of Nagakarsang hill (5083 m) and Tshola Lake from the village. The views of Cholatse and Tawache is close and beautiful from the village and surrounding. Enjoy the beautiful sunset in the Himalayas and rest for the day. Overnight at a teahouse in Pheriche.

Day19

Pheriche to Lobuche 4910M

We will continue the gradual uphill part today to Lobuche. Starting the day with the fantastic views of Cholatse and Tawache, we will soon find ourselves in the foothills of the Khumbu Glacier. Through the rocky terrain, we will make our lunch stop at Dugla. We will continue the trek with a zigzag and snow-covered trail through the terminal moraine of Khumbu Glacier to reach Lobuche. Overnight at a teahouse in Lobuche.

Day20

Lobuche to Gorak Shep 5140M.

From Lobuche, we have a short trek to Gorak Shep. Starting after breakfast we will start the trek to Gorak Shep. The views of Pumori and Nuptse are amazing from the trail. After our lunch break here, we will head towards the Everest base camp. The prayer flags and tent welcome you to the base camp. After some quality time here we will trek back to Gorak Shep and rest for the day. Overnight at a teahouse in Gorak Shep.

Gorak Shape to Dingboche 4410M.

Day22

Dingboche to Chhikung 4730M.

Our trail heads towards the island peak today. After breakfast, we will trek to Chhikung. Chikkung is often referred to as the gateway to Imja Tse. Walking beside the Nuptse, Lhotse Shar, and Imja glaciers we will reach Chhikung for Lunch. Chhikung is a small valley hidden near the base of the Imja Peak. As the last settlement before the summit, we will prepare and rest well here today. Overnight at a teahouse in Chhikung.

Day23

Chhikung to Island Peak Base Camp 4970M.

We have short treks before reaching the summit for better acclimatization. Today we will have a pretty relaxed trek to the Island Peak Base Camp. The trail is covered in snowline as we get closer to the Base Camp. Rest for the day and do short hikes nearby after reaching the Imja Tse Base Camp. Overnight at a tented camp in Island peak base camp.

Day24

Island Peak Base Camp - Summit Peak then Chhukung 4730M.

We will start the climb very early today first to the High camp. From here we will start the climb to the summit of the Imja Tse. Witness the magnificent sunrise midway to the Summit. The views clear up near the summit. Once in the top, you will witness some of the best views of the Everest and other fantastic snow-capped giants of the Mahalangur range. After a brief moment here we will start descending to the High Camp and Base Camp. We will drop further to Chhukung and rest for the day. Overnight at a teahouse in Chhukung.

Day26

Chhukung to Pangboche 3930M.

From Chhukung we will trek down to Pangboche. Starting after breakfast, we will walk down to the Dingboche valley. The beautiful scenery continues to accompany us throughout the trek. We will have our lunch stop in Somare. From Somare, we will have a short trek to the Pangboche village. After a beautiful sunset view from the Pangboche village, we will rest for the day. Overnight at a lodge in Pangboche.

Day27

Pangboche to Namche Bazaar 3440M.

Visit the Pangboche Monastery the first thing in the morning after breakfast. From Pangboche, we will trek back to Namche Bazar. Passing by Tengboche and Phungi Tanga our trail goes through beautiful rhododendron forests. We will cross a wooden bridge over a stream to reach Sansa. Rest for the day after reaching Namche Bazaar in the evening. Overnight at a hotel in Namche Bazaar.

Day28

Namche to Lukla 2800M.

For the last part of our Island and Mera Peak climbing trek, we will head to Lukla village from Namche Bazar. We will walk past Monjo and Phakding with a more relaxed trail to Lukla. Explore the market and search for some souvenirs to take back from the Himalayas. Overnight at a hotel in Lukla village.

Day29

Lukla to Kathmandu 1350M.

We will take a morning flight back to Kathmandu. Join our team for a farewell lunch here. We will drive you to the airport for your departure.
