12 Days Tour in Nepal Overview

This 12 days tour in Nepal is a slow-paced, scenic ride through the country’s most iconic and underrated gems. It starts in the capital, Kathmandu, and gently flows through cultural towns, quiet hill stations, and the lakeside city of Pokhara. So, you’ll get a real feel of Nepal, its history, people, and landscapes, without being rushed. From mountain sunrises to jungle adventures and peaceful lake views, this trip is more about soaking it all in than ticking boxes. Every stop gives you time to breathe, not just snap a photo.

You’ll explore ancient cities filled with art and temples, drive through winding countryside roads, wake up to mountain views, and spend time in the wild southern jungles. Our trip has a good mix of culture, nature, and soft adventure, nothing too intense or out of place. It’s ideal if you want something meaningful without needing to hike all day or wake up at 4 a.m. every morning. However, there’s enough movement and exploration.

Kathmandu & Patan Sightseeing (1,350 m)

The tour starts with an exploration of two of its oldest cities: Kathmandu and Patan. You’ll begin at Kathmandu Durbar Square, once home to the Malla and Shah kings. Walk through the old palace courtyards like Mohan Chowk and Sundari Chowk, and climb up Basantapur Tower if it’s open. There is also a home to the living goddess, Kumari, named Kumari Ghar. From there, you can walk or drive up to Swayambhunath (Monkey Temple). On top, a white-domed stupa overlooks the entire city. It’s peaceful, spiritual, and playful because of the monkeys wandering around.

In the afternoon, explore Patan Durbar Square, home to beautiful temples, including Krishna Mandir. Walk to Mul Chowk and the Patan Museum, which showcases traditional art and crafts. Try local snacks or browse handmade goods from the local Newari people. After a full day of culture and walking, head back to your lodge for dinner and rest.

It houses Bhaktapur Durbar Square, where you can explore the 55-Window Palace, Vatsala Temple, Nyatapola Temple, and the Golden Gate, each more impressive than the last. If you’re into pottery, you can also check out the pottery square and try creating pieces. And don’t forget to try this city’s famous sweet curd, Juju Dhau.

Then, after lunch, you’ll drive up to the nearby hill station, Nagarkot, on the northeastern edge of the Kathmandu Valley. It is pretty famous for its sunset and sunrise views over the Himalayas. Spend the night at a hotel here, breathing in the fresh air, and enjoy a quiet evening above the valley.

It has old stone houses, open fields, and a refreshing, slower pace than the previous cities. You can visit the historic Nuwakot Durbar, a seven-story palace that once served as a key military post during the unification of Nepal.

Then take a short walk uphill to the Bhairabi Temple, where locals often go for evening prayers. Strolling through the village paths gives you a glimpse of rural life, with old stone houses, friendly locals, and views of the Trishuli River below. After breakfast, you start the day with a boat ride to Barahi Temple, which sits right in the middle of Phewa Lake. You also visit the ancient Bindabasini Temple, which is a significant site for Hindu devotees, before exploring the cool and damp Mahendra Cave and Bat Cave. These caves are filled with unique rock formations and are home to bats. Next, cross the K.I. Singh Bridge, built over the Seti Gorge.

Then, you stop for a sight of Davis Falls, where the water plunges and vanishes underground. If time allows, you may step into the Gupteshwor Mahadev Cave to see the waterfall from inside. Then you visit the famous International Mountain Museum, where you can learn about the Himalayas, mountaineering history, and the mountainous people. After a full day of exploring, you’ll head back to the lodge in Pokhara to rest.

Can I include other places in the Nepal Tour Itinerary?

Yes, you can absolutely add other places to this Nepal tour if you have more days or want to explore different parts of the country. The 12-day plan already covers major highlights like Kathmandu, Pokhara, Chitwan, and hill towns like Nagarkot and Nuwakot, so you’re getting a good mix of culture, views, and nature. But if you’re into history, religion, or want to see something less touristy, there are great options to add.

Lumbini, the birthplace of Buddha, is perfect if you’re into peaceful, spiritual places. If you want more time in the hills, places like Bandipur or Tansen are great for relaxed village vibes and scenery. You can also go for short treks near Pokhara like Ghandruk, Dhampus, or Australian Camp, which give you real mountain experiences without needing a long trekking itinerary. Tour operators can help you customize everything based on your pace and interests.

Is a Nepal Tour Possible Throughout the Year?

Yes, this type of Nepal tour is possible throughout the year, which is one of its best features. Since it doesn’t involve high-altitude trekking, you don’t need to worry much about harsh weather. The best times are usually spring (March to May) and autumn (September to November), as the weather is pleasant and the skies are mostly clear, offering great views and fewer travel disruptions. These months are also ideal for activities like boating, hiking, and sightseeing.

Winter (December to February) can be cold, especially in Nagarkot or Nuwakot, but it’s still very doable, and it’s less crowded. Chitwan stays warmer even in winter, so the jungle part of your tour is still enjoyable. Monsoon season (June to August) brings rain and clouds, mostly in Pokhara and the Terai, which may affect mountain views, but if you’re okay with that, it’s quieter and cheaper. So yes, you can visit anytime, just plan according to what kind of weather and crowd level you’re comfortable with.

12 Days Tour in Nepal Cost

In 2025, we charge $1,130 per person for the 12-day tour of Nepal. However, traveling in a group can always save you a good chunk of money, and Nepal is no exception. The cost per person decreases as the group size increases, as expenses such as transportation, guide, and accommodation are shared among more people.

Note: These prices usually include accommodation, local transport, entrance fees, guide services, and most meals. Flights, insurance, and personal expenses are extra.

Food and Accommodation during the 12-day Tour in Nepal

Throughout the 12-day tour, you’ll be staying in hand-picked lodges and hotels that are clean, comfy, and full of local character. Some are family-run guest or tea houses, while others are boutique lodges tucked away in quiet corners. But all of them have warm beds, private rooms, and hot showers (yes, even in the hills). Places like Sarangkot or Nuwakot offer peaceful stays surrounded by nature, while your hotels in Kathmandu or Pokhara are closer to town life with cafes, shops, and wi-fi at your fingertips.

As for food, don’t worry, it’s not just dal bhat every day, unless you want it. Most lodges serve fresh, locally sourced meals, and you’ll usually get a menu to choose from, like fried rice, pancakes, soups, momos, noodles, and pasta. Some spots like Nagarkot and Nuwakot serve organic vegetables straight from their own gardens. It’s simple but tasty, and there’s always hot tea, coffee, or something cold to go with it. You won’t stay hungry for sure, but if you’re picky, carrying a few snacks is never a bad idea.
