Jugal Himal Trek, Sindhupalchok

4,074m

The Jugal Himal Trek is a 15-day trek in Sindhupalchok, northeast of Kathmandu. On the way, you reach the five holy lakes of Panch Pokhari, the Jugal Himal Base Camp at 4,500m, and a 5,570m viewpoint that looks straight at Everest and Lhotse on a clear day.

My name is Chandra Gurung, and my team at Himalaya Guide Nepal takes you three days deeper, past the last lodge in Panch Pokhara, up to the Jugal Himal base camp at the foot of the glacier.

This is one of the quietest high trails near Kathmandu. Many days you will not pass another foreigner at all. Just old Tamang and Sherpa villages, thick forest, and a wall of 6,000m peaks that marks the border with Tibet.

The range is a wall of sharp snow peaks. Dorje Lakpa is the tallest at 6,966m. Around it stand Phurbi Chhyachu, Madiya, and Jugal Yangri. Together they form part of the border wall between Nepal and Tibet.

The 2015 earthquake hit Sindhupalchok hard, and tourism slowed for years after that. In a strange way, it kept the region raw. The trails stayed quiet. The villages still farm and herd the old way. You feel like a guest here, not a customer.

Lapchi Trek, Dolakha

4,900m

The Lapchi Trek follows the Tama Khosi River from Lamabagar and climbs into the offbeaten valley of Lapchi Kang, a small Himalayan range tucked between the road to Tibet and the great Rolwaling Himal valley. The landscape shifts from cloud forest to bamboo groves to high alpine pastures and glacial lakes. It is remote. It is quiet. And it is nothing like the trails you see on Instagram.

The trek is classified as moderate to challenging. You do not need to be a professional mountaineer. But you do need a solid base of fitness and a willingness to camp in wild terrain. Most days involve 3 to 5 hours of walking. The highest point is 4,900m at the alpine lakes above Lapchi Village.

Manaslu Circuit with Serang Gompa Trek

Larkya La Pass (5,160 M)

The Manaslu Circuit with Serang Gompa Trek is a 15-day journey through the restricted trails of the Gorkha District and stands as a quieter alternative to Nepal’s commercial Himalayan routes. The route encircles Mount Manaslu (8,163 M), the world’s eighth-highest peak, and passes through a wide range of landscapes. At lower elevations, dense subtropical forests and waterfalls line the Budhi Gandaki River, while alpine terrain and glacial moraines dominate the approach to Larkya La Pass (5,160 M). The trail crosses Gurung and Tibetan-origin villages where architecture, customs, and daily life reflect long-preserved Himalayan traditions.

This itinerary gains its distinct character through its spiritual extension into Kyimolung Beyul, known as the “Hidden Valley of Happiness,” with a visit to the sacred Serang Gompa at 3,100 M. Blessed by Guru Rinpoche, the 500-year-old monastery remains an active center of Tibetan Buddhist practice in the Nubri region. The journey includes an overnight stay at the monastery, where trekkers observe rituals, practice meditation, and experience monastic life. This extension adds cultural depth and spiritual meaning to a demanding high-altitude trek.

Thorong La Pass (5,416 M)

The Annapurna Tilicho Lake Trek is a long, high-altitude journey that combines the classic Annapurna Circuit with a special side trip to Tilicho Lake. The trek starts in the lower foothills around Bulbule and follows the Marsyangdi River past waterfalls and villages like Tal as it climbs into the Manang region. One of the biggest highlights is Tilicho Lake, located at 4,919 M, known as one of the highest alpine lakes in the world. The trail slowly rises to help trekkers adjust to the altitude, passing from green forests and river valleys into the dry, windy landscapes of the high Himalayas near Tilicho Peak.

The trek then crosses the famous Thorong La Pass at 5,416 M, where trekkers enjoy wide views of the Annapurna and Dhaulagiri mountain ranges. After the pass, the trail enters the Mustang region and visits the sacred pilgrimage site of Muktinath Temple. From there, the route continues down through the deep Kali Gandaki valley to the natural hot springs at Tatopani. The final part of the trek passes through traditional Gurung and Magar villages such as Shikha and Ghorepani and ends with a sunrise view from Poon Hill. This journey offers a complete experience of Nepal’s mountains, culture, and diverse landscapes.

Annapurna Base Camp (4,130M)

The Short Annapurna Base Camp Trek offers a streamlined 8-day version of the classic ABC journey, designed for trekkers who want to visit Annapurna Sanctuary without a long-term commitment. The faster pace is manageable for experienced hikers, but beginners should be ready for a physically demanding adventure. The main difference in this shorter itinerary is that it skips the Ghorepani-Poon Hill section. Aside from that, nothing essential is left out. Manaslu Short Trek

5.0 (2 Reviews)

Larkya La Pass (5,106 M)

Experience one of the world’s most exciting high-altitude pass and the raw beauty of nature without the full three-week commitment.

The Short Manaslu Circuit Trek shortens the classic 14-day route around Mt. Manaslu (8,163m), the world’s eighth-highest peak, into 11 days. Although short in duration, the experience is the same: following the Budhi Gandaki River, walking through Tibetan-influenced villages, witnessing numerous mountain peaks, and crossing the iconic Larkya La Pass (5,106 m).

The short Manaslu trek is an 11-day moderate to difficult journey into the restricted heart of the Gorkha Himalayas, circling Mt. Manaslu (8,163 m). The experience is remote, quiet, and far less crowded than Everest or Annapurna, offering a focused version of the classic circuit. The adventure also offers a chance to see different flora and fauna within the Manaslu Conservation Area, adding to the beauty of the trek.

The journey begins with a bus transfer from Kathmandu to Machhakhola, where the trekking route starts after leaving the highway behind. From there, you move through the Budhi Gandaki valley, gradually gaining altitude through river gorges and traditional villages. Then, you’ll cross Larkya La Pass (5,106 m) and descend to Tilije, followed by a public jeep to Besisahar, and a final deluxe bus transfer back to Kathmandu.

Each experience on the Manaslu Short trek is the same as the standard Manaslu Circuit, but the only difference is you won’t have an acclimatization day, and you have to walk for longer hours. This makes the trek a better fit for trekkers who already have some high-altitude experience and have excellent physical fitness.

The best time to go for the Short Manaslu Trek is during autumn (September to November) and spring (March to May), when the weather is clear and the temperature is pleasant, which increases the chance of the trek’s success. Besides, the trek’s requirement for permit is same as for the classic one: the Manaslu Restricted Area Permit (MRAP), Manaslu Conservation Area Permit (MCAP), Annapurna Conservation Area Permit (ACAP), and the Chumnubri Rural Municipality Permit.

Jiri to Everest Base Camp Trek

5.0 (1 Review)

5,545 m / 18,192 ft (Kalapatthar)

The Jiri to Everest Base Camp trek is the original route taken by early Everest climbers, such as Sir Edmund Hillary and Tenzing Norgay, before the construction of Lukla Airport. It starts from the small hill town of Jiri and slowly takes you through beautiful hills, forests, and traditional villages before joining the main Everest route at Lukla. Once you reach Lukla, the trek follows the popular route through Namche Bazaar, Tengboche, Dingboche, Lobuche, Gorakshep, and finally to the Base Camp of Mount Everest.

The trek from Jiri to Everest Base Camp is a wonderful experience that provides the opportunity to experience the mix of landscapes from green hills to farmlands to high-altitude glaciers and snowy peaks. The initial phase of the trek from Jiri until reaching Lukla is peaceful, and as it enters the Khumbu region, it becomes busier. Although the EBC trek via Jiri is longer, it provides sufficient time for acclimatization before heading to high elevations and offers a rewarding alternative to the standard Everest Base Camp route. A complete guide for the everest expedition may interest you if you are searching for variety of tours and treks in everest region.

The EBC via Jiri is a perfect itinerary for Everest Base Camp for those seeking a genuine adventure, a deeper connection with the region, and the local mountain communities. From the mesmerizing views of mountain peaks, including the world’s highest peak, to the opportunity to explore Sherpa culture and experience their way of life, the trek through Jiri offers a more meaningful and remarkable experience.

Kanchenjunga Base Camp Trek is a less touristy trekking area in the eastern region of Nepal. Mt. Kanchenjunga is the third highest mountain in the world. Kanchenjunga base camp trek follhttps://himalayaguidenepal.com/less-touristy-trekking/ows the Tamor river bank and valley, approaching the mountain base camp. Once mainly a camping trek, now the trek offers a simple teahouse trekking experience with basic lodges and local meals along the trail.

Kanchenjunga Base Camp trek route passes some of the country’s richest and most pristine forests, and a restricted area trekking Nepal to the lap of Mt. Kanchenjunga. There are very normal lodges and food available along the trek. In Kanchenjunga Base Camp, most groups fly into Bhadrapur and drive to Taplejung. The trekking start point and ending point of the trek is Taplejung district of Eastern Nepal. You could also walk to Taplejung from Basantapur, which takes about three days longer.

Two separate routes head northeastward from Taplejung, one to the north base camp and the other towards the Kanchenjunga south base camp. These routes can be combined into a circuit. The north base camp trek reaches a higher altitude and offers closer views of Kanchenjunga’s glaciers.

Kanchenjunga Trek is one of the less crowded areas in the country with a spectacular landscape; Himalaya peaks rising above 7,000 m, lush flora and fauna, and Mt. Kanchenjunga 8,586 m. It is on the far eastern Nepal border with India’s Sikkim in the east and the Tibet Autonomous Region of China in the north. Kanchenjunga tea house trek is ideal for those seeking fewer tourists and a peaceful walk.

Top 3 Nepal Trekking Destinations For 2026

Everest Base Camp (EBC) Trek In 13 Days

Everest Base Camp Trek covers 120 to 130 kilometres across 13 days. You’ll arrive at Base Camp, sitting at 5,364 metres. Toss in the walk up Kala Patthar and you’ll go even further up, close to 5,545 metres. The path passes through Namche Bazaar, Tengboche, and Dingboche, with two rest days worked in to let your body catch up.

everest base camp trek

In October and November, rooms in Namche Bazaar and Gorak Shep often fill by mid-afternoon. That’s why guided groups book ahead instead of hoping for the best.

No mountaineering gear required on this one. Mostly it’s strong legs, and a slow, patient rhythm as the elevation climbs.

Annapurna Circuit Trek In 16 Days

Annapurna Circuit Trek

The Annapurna Circuit Trek crosses Thorong La Pass at 5,416 metres. It is higher than Everest Base Camp, actually. The trail loops all the way around the Annapurna mountains, from green valleys into dry, desert-like land near Manang. Most days run 5 to 6 hours of walking, meals and rooms included the whole way. You’ll get different scenery if you choose this package.

Annapurna Base Camp Trek In 13 Days

annapurna base camp trek

The Annapurna Base Camp Trek reaches a peak height of 4,130 metres, below the two treks listed above, making it a gentler starting point for starting trekking. You’ll cover 110 to 120 kilometres, moving through Gurung and Magar settlements, most days lasting 4 to 5 hours. The ABC trek difficulty is marked as moderate.

Are Shorter Nepal Trekking Options Available

Yes. There are different short treks available in Nepal. Some of them are listed below:-

Trek Type Duration Max Altitude
Short Annapurna Base Camp Trek Shorter version of a longer trek 8 days 4,130m
Manaslu Short Trek Shorter version of a longer trek 11 days 5,106m (Larkya La)
Ruby Valley Trek Short trek by design 9 days 3,842m
Helambu Circuit Trek Short trek by design 8 days 3,771m
Ghandruk Poon Hill Trek Short trek by design 7 days 3,210m

Short Annapurna Base Camp Trek still reaches the complete base camp, 4,130 metres, only across 60 kilometres rather than 110. Manaslu Short Trek still goes over Larkya La at 5,106 metres, with a private jeep ride added to make the journey smoother.

Short Annapurna Base Camp Trek

The second type (Short trek by design) was never meant to be long. Ruby Valley Trek winds through small homestay villages near the Ganesh Himal range. Helambu Circuit Trek sits close enough to Kathmandu. Ghandruk Poon Hill Trek wraps in a week and ends with one of Nepal’s best sunrise views over the Annapurnas.

Are Nepal Treks Beginner Friendly?

Yes, Nepal Treks are beginner-friendly. A handful of routes are truly designed for newcomers.

  • Ghandruk Poon Hill Trek: easy rating, 7 days, tops out at 3,210 metres, teahouses everywhere
  • Langtang Valley Trek: 9 days, climbs to 4,772 metres at Kyanjin Ri, a solid next step once you’ve done a short trek
  • Everest View Trek: 8 days, 3,867 metres, a real taste of the Everest region without the full Base Camp commitment

None of these three climb high enough to make altitude sickness a real worry. That’s exactly what makes them a smart place to start.

What Are Remote Area Nepal Treks With Less Crowd?

Tsum Valley Trek lasts 12 days through a peaceful Buddhist valley close to the Tibet border, reaching a high point of 3,700 metres. You’ll need a Tsum Valley permit alongside the standard restricted area one. Daily life here still resembles how it looked many generations ago.

Kanchenjunga Base Camp Trek is the hardest of the three. Sixteen days, 220 to 250 kilometres, climbing to 5,143 metres at Pangpema. The terrain is genuinely remote, and you’ll need two separate permits before you even start walking.

Manaslu Circuit Trek needs 13 to 14 days, going over Larkya La Pass somewhere around 5,106 to 5,160 metres. A guide isn’t merely suggested here, it’s a legal must, since the path runs through a closed-off zone. Beyond Samagaon, on some days you might spot only a handful of other walkers, even during the busiest months.

Fewer crowds sounds great on paper. Just remember it also means less help nearby if something goes wrong.

How To Choose The Right Nepal Trek Option For You?

Trek Best Time Difficulty Guide Required Permit Type
Everest Base Camp Mar-May, Sep-Nov Moderate to Strenuous Recommended National Park + Local Municipality
Annapurna Circuit Mar-May, Sep-Nov Moderate Recommended ACAP
Annapurna Base Camp Mar-May, Sep-Nov Moderate Recommended ACAP
Manaslu Circuit Mar-May, Sep-Nov Strenuous Mandatory RAP + MCAP + ACAP
Kanchenjunga Base Camp Mar-May, Sep-Nov Challenging Mandatory RAP + KCAP
Ghandruk Poon Hill Mar-May, Sep-Nov Easy Recommended ACAP

Three factors help you decide quickly. How much time is available. How well you cope with high elevation. Whether you’d rather have company or genuine calm. A spare week on hand? Ghandruk Poon Hill or Helambu work well. A full two weeks free? Everest Base Camp, the Annapurna Circuit, and Manaslu all become options. Kanchenjunga, Manaslu, and the Circuit all rise past 5,000 metres. Ghandruk, Helambu, and Ruby Valley remain under 4,000 the entire route.
