How to Read Annapurna Base Camp Trek Map
Thinking about how to interpret the map and understand each sign and symbol used in it? Look at the legend on the bottom-right side of the map. It explains the signs and symbols used throughout the map, including mountain peaks, lakes, passes, viewpoints, the main trekking path, alternative routes, driving and flight sections, and routes in detail.
- The orange circle represents where your journey begins and finishes. As shown on the Annapurna Base Camp Trek map, the adventure starts and ends in Kathmandu.
- The black and white dashed line marks the driving route, or sections covered by vehicle, before starting and after finishing the trek. For the ABC trek, you’ll drive or fly from Kathmandu to Pokhara. Then, you’ll drive all the way to Ulleri to begin your trekking journey. On the way back, you’ll take a drive from Sinuwa to Pokhara, then to Kathmandu.
- The green solid line indicates the main trail followed on foot toward Annapurna Base Camp. The line starts at Ulleri, followed by Ghorepani, Poon Hill, Tadapani, Sinuwa, Bamboo, Dovan, Deurali, and ultimately Annapurna Base Camp. Afterward, it follows the same retrace back to Chhomrong and descends to Jhinu Danda and Sinuwa before driving back.
- The dotted gray line shows a secondary or connecting trekking trail that you may include on your itinerary if you want to spend more time in the Annapurna region. The map also shows secondary or connecting trails toward places such as Ghandruk, Mardi Himal, and Forest Camp.
- The red flag represents a mountain pass along the route. The Annapurna Base Camp Trek map shows the mark between Ghorepani and Tadapani, which is Deurali Pass (3,090 m), and Chhomrong Pass between Tadapani and Chhomrong.
- The blue oval symbolizes a lake on the map.The ABC trekking route does not pass by a major lake. However, Phewa Lake is located in Pokhara, the gateway city for the trek.
