trip overview

A freshly opened hiking trail in the Annapurna area, the Khopra Trek offers an alternate trekking route in the area. Khayer Lake Trekking is another name for Khopra Trekking. This hike will take you to Ghorepani Poonhill, which is 3210 meters high. Because it involves a visit to the famed Khayer Lake, this journey is also famous as the Khopra Danda Khayer Lake trek. Indeed, this trip is one of Nepal’s most beautiful and uncharted hiking routes.

Khopra Danda Khayer Lake Trek is located northeast of Pokhara, adjacent to the Myagdi and Kaski districts. The Ghorepani community in Dhaulagiri is rather close to the actual Khopra Ridge.
During trekking, it is preferable to stay at Community Lodges in the area of Khopra Ridge. From Khopra Danda (3,660m) through the front face of Mt. Annapurna South and Hiuchuli. Khopra Danda Hiking is distinct from other well-known treks in the Annapurna region.

It takes you through towns and populous areas, into the wilds of mountains and dense woodland, and to off-the-beaten-path sites. The tea house camp’s final stop is here, although we can trek to Khair Lake, which is at 4,500 meters, in one day.

From Pawder Village, the Khopra Trek descends to Tatopani (Natural Hot Spring), where we may truly enjoy taking a dip in a natural hot spring, before trekking back to Pokhara. Spend some time at Khayel Lake, a holy lake where an annual festival is conducted and pilgrims assemble to take a dip in this venerated Lake, after arriving at Khopra Ridge.

Community lodges are run by local groups as opposed to privately owned lodges. After having a blast exploring the mountain’s remote areas, you will be trekking to connect on the major Annapurna pathways to go to Ghorepani.
Before continuing to climb to Khopra Ridge, a scenic site with a breathtaking view of the Himalayas, you first take in the tranquil surroundings.

Hiking across the lofty hills of Khanda Khopra is the ideal way to experience the vast Annapurna mountain range’s shadow. You may stroll through gorgeous ridges close to Dhaulagiri and the Annapurna Himalayas while taking in the stunning views of several peaks.

The peak of the Khopra Danda Trek is 3,640 meters high (1,1942 feet). The diversion to Lake Khayar, however, involves a 4,600-meter ascent (15,091 feet). The highest place to sleep is 3,640 meters, at the community lodge atop Khopra Ridge Phedi (11,942 feet).

Enjoy the breathtaking views of the green slope, the Annapurnas, Dhaulagiri, and Khayer Lake. Look into the customs of the inhabitants.

In March, April, and May, the Rhododendron forest turns colorful due to the Rhododendron blowing. The Khopra Trek is a less-trodden route that offers views of numerous mountains in the Annapurna Region. It provides community-based guesthouses with local Magar culture. It also provides a natural bath at the end of the journey before continuing to Pokhara and Kathmandu.

Khopra Danda Trek: Exceeding all expectations

Khopra Danda Trek, I wanted to do Manaslu but as I was traveling alone I couldn’t do it (you need a minimum of 2 tourists) so I chose this trek instead. I went at the end of May and was so lucky with the weather. The heavens are opening just after we got to our tea houses each day. I stayed dry and warm the whole time.

Khopra danda trek is pretty new, it is only open a few years ago and hardly anyone seems to know about it. Hardly any rubbish (which was quite shocking on the Annapurna circuit when I joined it on the last 2 days to do Poon Hill). The trek was exactly what I needed. We barely saw anyone, my amazing guide Bashu walked behind me the whole time. So it felt like it was just me and nature. The views were incredible, the hiking was challenging but not scary.   I felt completely safe the whole time because Bashu was there.

Chandra Gurung was very easy to deal with, he quickly helped me choose my trek and adapted it as I asked. They were super welcoming and friendly – picking me up from the airport, getting me in a hotel, and ensuring I had everything I needed. He’s very knowledgeable.

Bashu Gurung, my guide, was great! He was patient, kind, and very knowledgeable about the trek. He looked out for me and I felt like I was in safe hands the whole time. We had a good laugh along the way but he also gave me the space I needed. He also happily got up for every sunrise. I wanted to get up and patiently wait while I meditated in the freezing cold. He’s also a great photographer and captures a bunch of shots that I would have completely forgotten to take. I was just so overwhelmed by the breathtaking beauty! What a legend! I feel very lucky to have had him with me and couldn’t recommend him more highly. Thanks, Bashu!
